Why Shred?

Identity Theft is the Fastest Growing Crime in America

Federal Survey: Identity Theft Hits 1 in 4 US Households
Identity theft statistics now show that 1 in 4 US households have been a victim of identity theft in the past five years. In the last year alone, 10 million people were victimized.
About 1 in 6 identity theft victims said that the thief used their personal information to open at least one new account, such as new credit cards, new loans, and other misc. accounts. About 90 percent of identity victims are age 60 or youger. On average, identity theft thieves misused victims' information for about three months. However, when the identity thief opens new accounts with the victims newly acquired information, the misuse often lasts much longer.
